My Skin, My Science, My Story

Welcome to Stemulation Skin Care. I am Laurie Nicoll Nord, the founder. I truly believe this journey was divinely inspired—a gift from God above. It brought together a new direction in my life, a fascination with science, and a very personal wish to feel comfortable and confident in my own skin.

A new beginning in 2008

I had worked in the mortgage industry for nearly 30 years when the crash of 2008 happened. It was devastating. I knew recovery would take time, and I felt ready for a new challenge.

As I explored the possibilities, I was invited to join the marketing team of an emerging biotechnology company focused on stem cell research. I was amazed by the work. I became a sponge, taking in everything I could learn from the doctors and scientists around me.

Hearing about their research led me to ask a question that felt very natural: what could this growing understanding of cells teach us about caring for our skin?

For me, the question was personal

My skin had been a challenge since childhood. From the age of three, my mother took me to dermatologists because my skin was so dry and sensitive that my fingertips would crack and bleed. There were ointments, creams and treatments—including ultraviolet-light treatments that I still remember vividly.

At 13, being teased for having “Granny Hands” brought me to tears. Those memories stayed with me. I knew what it felt like to be self-conscious about my skin, and I wanted to understand whether there could be a better approach to everyday care.

I eventually left the biotechnology company to pursue that question. My own experience gave the work its purpose; the science gave me a direction to explore.

From research to Stemulation

Our research began in 2008, and Stemulation entered the market in 2010. The early work explored growth factors associated with mesenchymal stem-cell conditioned media. As the field developed, our formulations evolved to include bio-identical growth factors and peptides.

That history is the foundation of our name, Stem Cell Skin Science. Today, the collection brings together cleansing, exfoliation, serums and moisturizing care, with ingredients selected for the role of each formula.

People are understandably curious about before-and-after pictures. I would be remiss if I did not share my own. These photographs are from earlier in my Stemulation journey, and they remain an important part of my story.

The reason I keep going

The young girl who felt embarrassed about her hands is still part of me. So is the woman who found a new purpose after a difficult chapter in her career.
